Although Macromedia Flash has been around for some time, Flash MX adds exciting new capabilities that allow it to be used for considerably more complex web applications. Flash MX is platform independent, meaning that applications developed in Flash will look and function exactly the same on a Windows PC, a Mac Power PC and a Unix based system.

With standard HTML web development, websites are limited to rules that often lead to boring content and images that fail to grab the user's attention. Flash allows for the use of animation and content changes without the lengthy wait that HTML page refreshes can require. Every time the content of an HTML page changes, the user must wait for the entire page to reload. With Flash, only content that has changed needs to be reloaded, and this happens with no interruption for the user.
